Carrousel de Paris #1 – Hotel de ville

For all the non-believers, Father Christmas does indeed live on.

He’s currently ensuring that youngsters (and young at heart) laugh, giggle and delight in the spirit of good will around Paris.

Here are some photos of day one of our Christmas Carrousel crusade …..first stop = Hotel de Ville. (PS – The majority of the city’s carrousels are free of charge until 2nd January and we’re on a mission to discover them).

En fin….French frosts & a sign of the big ‘W’

Winter held out right till the very last day this year.

Unlike last year when it hit us early with a bang, or the year before when a silly teenager rode her moped to school in conditions like those in the above photos, only to fall at an intersection,  slide across an icy road and under the front my car, resulting in a three car pile-up of oncoming traffic who stopped to rubber neck, a policeman to fall on his butt in the midst of it all and general all round havoc at morning peak hour ……..this year has  been drama free with little sign of the big ‘W’.

London light

There is something so Pygmalion about the London air that gets deep into your bones. The smell of chesnuts roasting in the streets around Covent Garden is sensual and so different to chestnuts roasting on the streets of Paris. Christmas lights up the english city with a glowing cheer that feels cosier than a sophisticated, edgy, french Noel. A cockney accent with a subtle and naughty sense of humour is a change from a stern and astute “Bonjour“.

Yes, it was fun, Monday’s high-speed trip… a sunrise in Paris, sunset in London, then home again. And, with the positive results we’d hoped for, there’ll may be more days like it on the way.

BYO……piano

At least that’s what Steve Villa-Massone does!

An amazingly talented pianist, he wheels his piano around the streets, finds a spot, sets up, and starts tapping at the keys. A truly amazing thing to come across in a Parisian street.

You can listen his music on his website or snap up a CD if you stumble across him – it really is beautiful.

Enjoy your weekend, may it be a good one.
